The academic calendar is a negotiable matter under EERA. United Faculty is the sole negotiator with the District on the academic calendar. Calendars cannot be adopted by faculty vote at a Senate meeting or imposed by administration without bargaining; both routes have been attempted in the past and both are inconsistent with EERA.
A new academic calendar work group is currently forming with broader representation: the three Senates, UF, Adjunct Faculty United, and District operations (Admissions and Records, Financial Aid). Vice Chancellor Dr. Jennifer Vega La Serna is helping convene. The work group is intended to surface input early so calendars do not arrive at the bargaining table as fait accompli.
Members with calendar concerns should route them through the academic calendar work group via your Rep Council member, who will pass them to the Negotiations Team.
Have a question or concern? Bring it through your Rep Council member — that is the formal channel for accurate, timely response. See Leadership & Reps for your campus and division contacts. Official UF updates are distributed only by email from UF role-based accounts and posted to UnitedFacultyNOCCCD.org.
